Remedial / Deep Tissue
When muscles and tendons become damaged or impaired, knotted and tense, remedial massage provides a healing treatment where pressure is adjusted to suit your needs. Remedial massage holistically treats the whole body and traces the discomfort as far as possible back to the original cause, healing both the cause of the disorder as well as the symptoms.
It uses several specialised techniques to locate and repair damage and to support and speed up the body’s own repair mechanisms.
Relaxation/Swedish Massage
Uses soft tissue massage designed to relax and rejuvenate the body through a smooth flowing gentle technique. The use of essential oils designed especially for you to enhance the feelings of relaxation and wellbeing
Pregnancy
In addition to the nurturing and emotional support provided by the practitioner, massage reduces peripheral swelling, soothes the nervous syste, helps to prevent insomnia, muscle ramps and back pain.
There are many physical benefits to pregnancy massage. Care must be taken during the first trimester but pregnancy massage is beneficial throughout the whole pregnancy. Massage throughout the pregnancy is also said to shorten labour time and the return to optimal fitness after birth.
Sports/Rehabilitation
Sports massage is a type of Swedish massage that stimulates circulation of blood and lymph fluids. Some sports massage movements use trigger point therapy to break down adhesions (knots in the muscles) and increase range of motion.
But you don't have to be in the Olympics to benefit from sports massage. Sports massage is also good for people with injuries, chronic pain or restricted range of motion. The massage therapist generally concentrates on a specific problem area. (Sore neck and shoulders
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger points are hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscle that are associated with nodules (knots) in taut bands of muscle fibres. Compression of a trigger point may elicit local tenderness, referred pain, or local twitch response. Trigger Pont Therapy aims to release these nodules allowing the muscle to relax and pain to diffuse
Myofascial Release
Fascia is the soft tissue component of connective tissue that provides support and protection for most structures within the body, including muscle. This soft tissue can become restricted due to overuse, trauma or inactivity, often resulting in pain, muscle tension and diminished blood flow. Myofascial release seeks changes by stretching, elongation of fascia, or mobilising adhesive tussues. Results include relaxing contracted muscles, increasing circulation, increasing venous and lymphatic drainage, and stimulating the stretch reflex of muscles and overlying fascia. |
